FAQ
Before Purchasing FAQs
How many phasmids should I first buy?
Buying two phasmid’s at the start is the best way to go. You should try and buy a Male and a Female. This way they can mate and the female can start to lay eggs. The female will generally lay up to 7 eggs a day.
What is the best species to buy?
Any type of species of stick insects are good to buy. But personally I think that Spiny Leaf Insects are a good starter and once you get experienced with that species, you can move onto others.
Why choose stick insects over other pets?
Stick insects are very low maintenance pets. All ages can enjoy them and they are very good pet’s that can live in the classroom and at home. They are loving creatures and are relatively clean, unlike other animals.
Is shipping safe?
Our stick insects are comfortably packaged in an enclosure with breathing holes and gum leaves. The enclosure is secured to keep the insect(s) safe on their journey.
What will I need before I purchase a stick insect?
Before you purchase a stick insect, you must have access to a gum tree leaves, they like to eat. The only other thing you will need is a positive attitude towards looking after the stick insect.
Do I need to be at home for the delivery?
It is best to be at home when the delivery arrives so you can sign for it and ensure the insects are protected inside rather than left on the doorstep. Our deliveries come with full Australia Post tracking, so that you can be fully aware of the delivery schedule and estimated time of arrival.
How long will the deliver take to arrive?
The package is shipped via Express Post. The package will be dispatched for delivery on the next business day after your order is received. Should you place an order on Thursday or Friday, it will most likely be dispatched for deliver on the following Monday, to avoid transit delays.
How old are the stick insects when they're sent?
In most cases, the stick insects will be approximately a month old. This will ensure you get to see them grow from a young age. They are usually about 2cm in length and by this stage are able growing well and on their way to adulthood.
Do you deliver anywhere in Australia?
Yes we can deliver across Australia, however there are some permit requirements for Western Australia and Tasmania. If you’re from these states, please refer to the details below the FAQ section on this page to ensure you comply with the requirements.
Leaf Stick Insects At Home FAQs
My phasmid has a piece of skin hanging off of it's body.
If you have woken up to realise that there is a piece of skin hanging off your insect, don’t be scared. The insect is currently moulting and is shedding it’s skin to make room for more growth. The insect should not be touched during this stage and for a short time afterwards.
What do I do when my phasmid starts laying eggs?
If you notice a small seed looking object on the bottom of your enclosure, this is a stick insect egg. You should immediately pickup the egg and place it in a container with sand that has a tissue over it. Spray the eggs lightly twice a week.
